Goals are easier to make than keep. But, with a little help and motivation, you too can learn how to achieve your goals successfully by learning How to Stick to your Goals.
There are only a few more days left this month. Take a moment and reflect back on your goals you set this new year. How many of your new year goals have you accomplished?
Before I jump into how to stick to your goals, check out this awesome FREE Monthly Goal Planner I created for my subscribers:
Start now
First, when goal setting you must understand that importance of starting now. Yes, you can wait to start your goals. But there is no better time than starting now.
The longer you delay working on your goals- your achieve and results will also be delayed.
All it takes to be one step closer to achieving your goals is just a little planning and preparation.
Start now by decided what exactly it is that you want to accomplish. Grab a pen and piece of paper- write it down. Don’t forget to alway write down your why.
This is a great time to create a vision board if you don’t have one created.

Start small
Secondly, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Start small. Often times you fail at goals if you take on too much then you can handle.
I suggest starting off with one goal and focusing on that one goal to begin.
Once you prove to yourself that you can handle more than one goal, then you can set and focus on multiple goals.
Be sure that the goals you chose are realistic goals. Starting small and setting realistic goals is a great start when learning how to stick to your goals. Taking small steps will ensure that you are able to achieve your goals and stay motivated along your journey to success.
Define your goals
The next step in sticking to your goals is to define your goals. Create a time frame for your big goal. Setting smaller goals to achieve that will lead you to your big picture goal.
Defining your goals by creating smaller goals will help to build your confidence and dedication needed to successfully stick to your goals you are setting.
Be kind to yourself
From the moment you set a goal to the moment of success and achievement, it can be a challenging journey. The most important advice I can give is to encourage you to be kind to yourself and never give up.
There are going to be days when you may feel discouraged. When you begin to feel discouraged and think that there is little to no progress being achieve – remain positive.
Focusing on the positive and replacing negative thinking with positive thinking and affirmations will help keep you focused on the bigger picture, your goals.
On challenging days reflect back to your vision board and re-acknowledge your “why”. Don’t forget why you are committed to your goals. Focusing on the bigger picture will encourage you to focus on your goals and stick to them.
Find community support
Community support is a vital way to establish accountability. Sticking to your goals becomes easier when you have someone with a common goal to check in with.
I would encourage you to share your goals with someone that can hold you accountable. Someone willing to put the pressure on you on days when you need it, or when they see you are slacking on your goals.
Working together with others has always been a motivating factor for me when it comes to success.
Oftentimes accountability within a community is the one thing that will keep you from willingly giving up on some of the toughest days.
Be your own motivation- do it for you
Be your own motivation. If you are setting a goal and sticking to it make sure it’s a goal that will benefit you.
Make your goal specific. Be sure that your goal is something that you are doing for you. Your goal should be something that will bring you benefit and happiness.
Remember that tomorrow is always a new day
Not everyday will be easy. You may have a day or few when you do not notice any progress towards your goal.
Remember, that tomorrow is always a new day.
So many people fail to stick to their goals when they feel defeauted or like they have failed their set goal.
No worries, with each new day you can always start fresh and try again, even harder than the day before. Setbacks are normal when working towards a goal.
The most important piece of advice to remember is that tomorrow is always a new day and a clean slate to make things right.
Now that you have the basic knowledge on how to create goals and stick to them, share with me in the comments below 1-3 goals that you are planning to work on this upcoming month.
I am looking forward to reading your response.

Great tips! I definitely agree with you about starting now! It can be so easy to keep putting things off. My goals this month include continuing to write a blog post every week and getting all of my steps in each day. 🙂

Hi Heidi!
You have some great goals for this month. Planning your posts in advance is a great strategy. I find that if I push off drafting and scheduling my post I fall behind. Draft your posts in advance when you have the energy. You will feel less pressure.

Hi Amanda,
Thanks so much for reading. Yes, as mothers we have to remember to be kind to ourselves. We already have so much on our plate and to-do list. Slow and steady wins the race. We are winning as long as we don’t give up on our goals. Smalls steps will still get us to the finish line.

Love these suggestions, especially the practice of creating a vision board. A vision board inspires me and kind of maps the path I want to follow. It is a big help knowing where you want to go. 🙂
