So, you want to use Pinterest to grow your audience? Pinterest drives more traffic than any other social media platform. If you are unfamiliar with Pinterest it is a visual discovery search engine. Today, I will be sharing how to use Pinterest to grow your audience.
Pin frequently
In order to use Pinterest to grow your audience, you have to show up. Yes, that requires you to pin frequently. My biggest advice to new bloggers is to pin frequently in order to keep your current audience engaged. Pinning frequently will also make your pins more discoverable throughout Pinterest. This will definitely grow your audience and traffic to your blog source.
I make it a priority to pin between 15-20 pins per day. Those pins do not have to consist of pins you have created. Simply reposting pins to your boards is another great way to reach more Pinterest users.
When active on Pinterest keep in mind the time of day you are engaging through pinning. I like to spread out the time of day in which I pin. I make it a priority to pin in the morning, midday, and evening. This ensures that I reach users in differing time zones.
Pin quality posts/images
Pinning quality posts and images are kind of a big deal. Who doesn’t what an aesthetically pleasing board? Pinning is an art. If it looks good, it is more likely to be shared and repinned.
Make sure the title is clear and stands out on your post. Readability is another aspect that will appeal to pinners and prompt them to share your pins.
Write keyword-rich titles and descriptions
Your title and description should be rich with your keyword. Optimizing the pin title and description with keywords will keep your pin relevant and will drive traffic to your pin.
The richer your title and pin description, the higher you will be ranked with Pinterest. Pinterest will view your content as branded and well organized.
Gaining the trust of Pinterest will allow you to grow your audience through their promotion methods. Your pin can even land on the main feed if you create a keyword-rich title and description that stands out within your niche.
Confirm your site
Confirming your site will help to build trust with not only Pinterest but with your current and future audience.
If you are using Pinterest as a blogger I highly recommend for you to transition from a personal to a business account if you have not already. By having a business account, you then have access to in-app analytics associated with your profile.
The analytic tool that Pinterest provides makes it so much easier to view your pin impressions. What I enjoy the most about this tool is being able to see how many people I reached within the last month. This is very important when you have a goal set to grow your audience.
Optimize your site to be pin friendly
To be pin friendly means your site/blog has images that can be pinned. You also want to ensure that your site has a pin it button so your audience is able to pin your posts.
I would also recommend having a Pinterest follow button on your site, so your audience can easily follow you on your Pinterest platform.
Build a community
Building a community is about focusing on engaging with like-minded individuals. I encourage you to group boards within your niche. Engaging with group boards will get your site/blog the exposure that it needs in order to use Pinterest to grow your audience.
Group boards not only allow you to build and be a part of a bigger community but it also allows you to connect with others and re-pin their content which may be of interest to you.
Be useful
Produce content within your niche. Most importantly, produce content within your niche that is useful. Ask yourself, will people learn something from my pin?
As a Pinterest user I expect information to be useful. A few different useful pin types include:
- Product pins
- DIY
- Recipes/ Food
- Infographics
- How to’s
- Blog Posts
- Promotions
- Lead Magnets

Great tips. I’m on pinterest but I don’t use it much. How do you join groups on there?

Hi there!
Thank you for reading. Pinterest is a great platform to use if you are also a blogger. Pinterest is not just a place to share or reshare pictures. Behind every picture is a great article. I would highly recommend you to start utilizing Pinterest more. It’s a great platform to really grow your views on.
A Pinterest group board is a collaborative board owned by one Pinterest user. That user can allow others to join and also contribute to the board.
To find a group to join you can type a topic in the search bar within Pinterest and click on the drop-down that says “all pins”, select the option “boards”. You can view all of the many boards based on your interest. Always read the board description to see if it an open or closed group.
Some groups have specific rules and you can always read about those specifics within the board description. I hope this information helps. You can always reach out to me on social media or via email if you need more support.
Happy Pinning!

You’ve got some great information here. However, I have heard with the latest changes, that we should be reconsidering the rate that we’re repinning content vs creating new content. What are your thoughts on all of that?

Hi there!
So recently one of my followers on twitter shared with me a Pinterest strategy that she found helpful. Basically, she creates about 5 different pin images for one post and she repins that one frequently over various boards and will repin on the same board using a different image. She shared that she noticed that it worked to drive traffic, without having to create an abundance of new content.
I am considering trying this. It would be especially helpful for me in order to reuse older pins. It’s like giving old content a facelift. And honestly, I think this is a great strategy that saves time and keeps your pin activity consistent. I do think the rate that we repin content is important, simply to remain relevant and engaged. It’s much better than waiting to create new content that takes time and cannot be rushed.
