I am speaking out on behalf of moms everywhere, it’s a struggle balancing work and life routines. One thing motherhood has taught me is how to master maintaining. Continue reading if you want to learn more about how I maintain a balanced work and life routine.
Maintain a Balanced Work and Life Routine
According to the Oxford dictionary, maintaining is described as being able to provide necessities for life or existence. Yup, that translates into “motherhood” to me and a million other women reading this.
As a mom, if there is one thing you will learn to do best that is maintain and multitask. I had to learn that hard way that if I wanted to keep my sanity I had to set boundaries in order to maintain a balance between work and life.
Boundaries include not allowing the two, work, and life to mix. I have designated times to focus on work and after that designated time I live and enjoy life to the fullest.
Balancing Work
Balancing work starts with setting work hours and sticking to them. During my designated work hours, I prioritize my time and focus on the most important items first and save the least important for last. Time management is the key to successfully balancing work.
It’s also important to know your strengthens and limitations. Understand that you are one person and don’t try to be all things to all people. Set boundaries with people as well, to ensure realistic expectations are clear across both sides. Prioritize your time and when your time is up- clock out and leave anything unfinished for the next day.
Don’t allow unfinished work to discourage you. It’s better to leave smaller tasks unfinished and make it a first priority for the next day. This will ensure you avoid burnout and will give you a fresh start the next day.
Balancing Life
Balancing life begins with acknowledging and accepting that you cannot do everything all the time. As a mom, I know that I am often supermom 24/7 and even on the days when I don’t feel like putting my cap on, the expectation remains that I am a mom and I am a “do it all” mommy.
The reality is that I cannot do everything all the time. And that’s ok. It’s even ok to say “no” sometimes. Balancing life requires me to not simply manage my time but it requires me to manage myself.
I have the most balance over life when I schedule a time for myself and focus on living life with purpose. This includes taking a step away from work and social media to focus on everything that makes me happy.
The Importance of Maintaining a Work and Life Balance
Creating a work and life balance is a continuous process. It requires you to periodically reexamine your priorities. Taking care and nurturing yourself is needed in order to maintain a balanced work and life routine. And by doing so you will feel more balanced and happy.
You will not only feel less stressed but you will be able to enjoy your weekdays and weekends alike. Knowing how to set boundaries between work and life is crucial and if you can stick with the boundaries you will notice a major difference in your mental and physical health.
