One week off of social media wasn’t so bad. I actually got a lot accomplished during my time off. It may sound intimidating but going on a social media cleanse is a healthy decision.
Here are 5 things I learned post social media cleanse
1. I am a lot more productive without social media
It’s a challenge to cold turkey stop using social media, especially for influencers who rely on social media to connect with others and build their audience.
However, I must say that I was a lot more productive without social media this past week and I had a lot of time to go over my blog and refocus on my mission. I even had time to create some new blog opt in’s that I think you would enjoy.
Most importantly, without social media I had more time to think about “you”… my readers. And how I can serve you better in the coming months. Sometimes it’s so easy to get wrapped up into social media and you find yourself taking pointless actions with no results.
Having time off made me realize that I need to make sure I am using social media when I do to the best of it’s capabilities to serve others. So, social media is a tool and it is created to be used properly and that requires thought into each post.
Ask yourself, if what you are posting will serve the purpose of informing or uplifting someone else? If your presence on social media is not to inform or uplift you really need to take some time off to rethink your social media strategy.
2. I actually have other interests that I neglected
Remember, when I use to blog about health and fitness? Well, that’s still important to me. Taking a social media break alleviated a lot of free time for me and I was actually able to meal prep all week breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I even had time to exercise. I started using my Fitbit again, and I am tracking my steps. I am striving to hit my 5k step goal each and everyday.
I even signed up for a 5k run for later this month. I honestly, forgot that there are so many other things I enjoy doing that I actually had time to do without social media as a distraction.

3. Social media impacts my sleeping habits
Yeah, I’m sure you have seen those articles too that share with you all the facts about how social media and big bright screens impact your sleep and cause sleep deprivation. Yup, that was me- sleep deprived to the fullest!
I didn’t even realize how much social media was a distraction to me. I would of course sometimes sit in bed and check my last notifications before shutting my eyes. But often, 5 minutes would turn into 25 minutes and so on. It’s way to easy to lose track of time scrolling.
Since taking a week off I never slept better. I actually went to bed at a reasonable time and each morning I felt well rested and ready to wake up and start my day.
It was also a game changer for me when waking up. Instead of reaching for my phone to check out the latest news online I would reach for my bible and start my day off with reading my daily text. This automatically helped me wake up on the right side of the bed each morning with a positive attitude, armored to conquer the day ahead.
4. Going social media free helps me live more in the moment
You can miss so much if you are constantly plugged in to the outside world outside of your circle. This past week I realized that I need to live more in the moment.
One thing about my husband and I, we are always on the go exploring, and working on projects. Overall we enjoy talking each others ears off with our great conversations.
This social media cleanse showed me that I need to live more in the moment and unplug from the outside world. When we went out this weekend we watched everyone around us who had their phones glued to their hands.
It really amazed us! People could barely place their food order, too afraid to end their call or interrupt typing their text. I don’t want to be that person! Because it looks crazy!
I want to live in the moment and enjoy those moments.
5. I learned something new
Taking this week off helped me realize who I really am. I am someone who wants to help others. No matter what I do in life, my passion is to help those around me.
It really ties back to my passion and why I started blogging. It’s not about me but it’s about others. Whether it’s teaching, informing or simply being a positive inspiration to others- that’s my main goal and the role I want to have in the lives of others.
Participating in a social media cleanse will prompt you to think about what you role is in life and who you are with or without social media. Social media can either help you or hinder you from your passion and purpose.
