January is National Get Organized Month! To celebrate, I have 7 tips to share on how to get organized this month.
Start the new year by getting organized
Do you have plans for getting organized this year?
Is there a certain area of your life that you want to focus on?
You can set clear goals and work to get organized this month by following these 7 tips:
1. Set specific reasonable goals
First, to start the process, you must first set specific reasonable goals.
Setting specific and reasonable goals is important to declutter and get on the right track; becoming more organized.
- Define your goal
- Understand any challenges that stand in your way.
- Breakdown your specific goals into even smaller tasks
- Set deadlines and commit to meeting those deadlines
It’s all about setting goals that are reasonable to achieve.
Do you find it a challenge to set specific reasonable goals? If yes, check out my post: How to Set SMART goals.
2. Take your goals and simplify them into smaller tasks
In addition to setting specific reasonable goals- break down your specific goals into smaller more manageable tasks is critical.
Most importantly, knock out quick and easy tasks first, don’t procrastinate.
If a task requires more time, set a specific time to focus on that one task and finish it to completion.
As for me, handling smaller tasks is always better than overwhelming myself with trying to tackle larger tasks.
If you are looking for ways to better organize your time, incorporate time blocks and uninterrupted focus time in your daily schedule.
3. Create a schedule for yourself
To make changes in your current habits, make sure you are setting enough time aside to devote to making changes and prioritizing.
Determine how, when, and for how long you will focus on organizing.
How much time do you have to spare daily or weekly? A few minutes each day or a few minutes each week?
However often, stick to it!
Consistency is key!
4. Tackle the areas in your life that bring your the most anxiety
Nothing is more satisfying than jumping over tough hurdles.
Take on a project that causes you anxiety or dread.
The momentum of tackling a challenging hurdle is rewarding and motivating .
Begin by sorting through items that do not belong. Whether in your life physically or not.
If anything feels out of place, purge it or find it a new home.
5. Make sure everything has a place
Purge your life or space but making sure everything has a place.
Use labels, and return everything to it’s place after using.
If there are items that you use frequently or depend on make sure those items are conveniently available to you.
6. Setting a timer will help you get organized
Using a timer to track your time is the best way to stay on schedule as you organize.
7. Continue to maintain your organized space
When January is over, make sure you continue to maintain your organized space.
Don’t allow yourself to slip back into bad habits.
If you keep everything organized and in order in your life it will be much easier to maintain a organized space.
