Hi, friends! Today I am sharing my honest review of my current workout plan, Alive 1.0 by Whitney Simmons.
Some of you may know Whitney Simmons as the outgoing YouTube star. She is well-known for her “holy heck-n-bob” outgoing personality. I actually started following her some years ago not for fitness but just because of her upbeat personality.
Last year I started following Whitney Simmons on Instagram and I really enjoyed the free workouts she posts on her page and stories. Last year her app was everything I needed so I can workout at home.
I am currently, two weeks into Alive 1.0 by Whitney Simmons. The program is a total of 8 weeks. And I am ready to share with you my thoughts on the program and the user friendliness of the app.

Pre-Covid Workout History and My backstory
Prior to lockdown I had a gym membership at Planet Fitness which was about $25.00 per month and let’s not forget about the annual membership fee of $39.00.
There was no way that I was going to go back inside the gym even when the doors opened back up this year.
I am not a person that enjoys working out at home, so I was concerned about trying out a home workout app. I find home workouts hard to follow. Especially on an app. And for me, it’s little to no accountability when working out at home compared to a gym.
If you are traveling to a gym you come to show up and workout. When working out at home, the couch and the fridge is temptation.
6 months into the pandemic I literally did nothing. And you may be wondering what I mean by nothing? Nothing means nothing- no walking, no yoga, and absolutely no working out. At least, I wasn’t following a set routine.
And I did not feel great at all after doing nothing for 6 months. It’s so easy to make excuses and blame everything on coronavirus as to why I was eating more junk and why I wasn’t working out.
But, let’s face the facts- excuses did nothing for me. And after 6 months I realized that nothing was going to be changing anytime soon so I had to figure out how I was going to make things work for me.
One day I was watching YouTube videos from my favorites and I decided to start watching some of Whitney Simmons workout videos. I typically watch her foodie and random videos and skip over the workout videos. But, I decided to let it play and that’s when I decided that I had to do better. It was time for a change.
Get Fit With Whit
Following Whitney Simmon’s “Fit Tips With Whit” series really motivated me to start making better decisions when it came to my health and wellness. Whitney has publically shared her own personal fitness journey which is so inspiring.
Here is a video of Whitney sharing her biggest inspiration that started her on her fitness journey:
One of her main goals is to empower women to shape the very best version of themselves, both physically and mentally.
I started out watching her free workout videos on YouTube. And more recently I decided to give her app a try. It’s really a no-brainer. Since I am no longer paying for a gym membership, paying $14.99 monthly is well worth it.
And if you don’t want to pay for full access you can still access free workouts without the commitment.
Now, that you know a little more about Whitney Simmons workout app and my backstory when it comes to fitness let’s dive in to my honest review of her program.
Alive Review
Alive includes 5 different workout plans that you can choose from based on your personal fitness goals and needs. For each program, Whitney guides you through a full schedule of workouts over the span of several weeks.
All workouts are circuit-based. Meaning you will do a movement for a set time and then rest. For example, 40 seconds on and 20 seconds off (rest). Circuit-based training helps to keep your heart rate up which keeps me moving and challenged throughout the entire workout session.
I am a visual learner so being able to watch Whitney demonstrate the workout exercises has really helped me to become familiar with the different exercises. This is helpful to see the exercise before beginning and during. It really helps me keep a good form when I have an idea of what motions to do.
Alive 1.0 is the first workout plan that I have tried by Whitney Simmons. And I love this particular workout because it is an 8-week program that targets legs, upper, and cardio. Those are all of the areas that I really want to work on and improve.
The workouts are perfect for everyone no matter their level of experience when it comes to working out. Whether you are a beginner or experienced there is a workout plan for you.
Another feature that is helpful is the timer. The timer helps me keep track of breaks and allows me to work out as effectively as possible.
I also admire the design of the app. There are no distractions or ads that appear when using which is something I really appreciate. There is nothing worst than becoming distracted when working out.
Documenting your journey
A feature that really sold me is personalization. Within the app, you are encouraged to document your workout journey and take pictures.
Aside from uploading pictures within the app, you can also track your weight progress. This is very encouraging to me because I really enjoy being able to track my progress. But I have learned that numbers on the scale do not always tell the full story so pictures are a great feature to be able to document.
Progress is my motivation for continuing no matter what I am committing too.
Subscription Options
Alive is free to download and offers two Premium subscription options (monthly $14.99 or annually $119.99). Both of these options include an exclusive 7-day trial to test out the app to see if it’s the right fit for you.
If you select Alive premium you will be provided with full access to the app which includes access to all programs and daily workouts.
My recommendations
If you are looking for an amazing and motivating home workout app Alive is one of the best apps that I have found worth subscribing to. The programs are tailored to help push you to meet your fitness goals, pushing you to your limit. As well, as encouraging you to get in the best shape of your life and reach your fitness goals.
Since starting Alive 1.0 I am down a total of 8 lbs within 2 weeks. And aside from the numbers on the scale going down the inches on my waistline are shrinking too. I can definitely see more definition in my midsection and love handles.

My only recommendations that I would like to see in the future are an option for workouts without equipment or modification options for workouts. And also an option to move around my workout days within the app. I do not like that I cannot change my rest days.
I would benefit so much more from having the ability to select my workout days and rest days. Some weeks my schedule does not align with what the app has predetermined my workout schedule to be.
I am one of those people who has some basic home workout equipment and I really try my best to find alternates but it would be nice to have the ability to filter through to workouts that do not require any equipment.
Overall, I am highly satisfied with the Alive app and after completing Alive 1.0 I can’t wait to continue and try another program within the app.
Are you working out at home or in the gym? If you are working out at home tell me in the comments what your home workout looks like. Are you using an app to assist you with your workout? I would love to hear more about how you are staying fit this year.
Talk to you soon!

Loving this! I have never worked out at a gym so home workouts are where it is at for me. I have mostly learned from DVD’s, but Youtube is where it is at for trying out a new routine and finding an instructor to connect with. The best part is, after my mind and body have memorized the moves, I can workout to music. 🙂
Best of luck!
