Today, I am celebrating 8 years of marriage with my best friend and the person I have chosen to do life with. I have learned so much over the years and today on Blog Life With Erica I am sharing 8 Lessons Marriage Teaches You.
8 Lessons Marriage Teaches You
Life is always moving fast. In the course of 8 years, a couple has plenty of time to learn a lot about themselves and each other.
Most importantly, you learn the importance of marriage. And you learn why marriage is worth fighting for.
1. Keep adventure alive
In the beginning, especially when you are young everything is always adventurous. But with each year things can get kinda hectic. And let’s not forget about life changes with marriage, as your family grows and your attention gets divided among your children and other household responsibilities. Marriage will teach you that it is important to keep the adventure alive.
You don’t have to plan anything extravagant. It’s been 8 years and I still love just getting in the car and getting lost on a backroad. Or simply, going for a walk and discovering a new historical landmark.
Fighting to keep adventure alive doesn’t require a lot of money. It only requires two willing people.
2. Love demands Grit
Grit is passion and perseverance for long term goals. It is the ability to persist in something you feel passionate about. It is perseverance through difficult times and obstacles.
Marriage is not a walk in the park. But, it’s worth it when you really love someone.
Marriage teaches you that love demands grit.
3. Every moment counts
Marriage is not only about celebrating the big moments. Every moment counts.
Marriage teaches us to acknowledge every moment and make it count. It teaches not to be too busy with work or other obligations and forget about special moments with your family.
No matter how many hours you work or how much money you make, none of those things can take the place and compensate for missed moments.
4. Marriage is one of the most important relationships in life
Happiness is determined and influenced by the quality of your marriage. This means that marriage is one of the most important relationships in life.
Through marriage, we learn so many important life lessons.
5. Marriage teaches a lot
From compromises to raising children, learning how to balance work and life; marriage teaches us a lot.

Marriage teaches us about ourselves and our partner. Marriages also teach us to connect deeper into our spirituality. Marriage teaches us how to love and live.
6. Love trumps everything
Jennifer Lopez said it best- love doesn’t cost a thing. Marriage has nothing to do with the materialistics: a big diamond ring, a big house, or any other materialistic things you can think of.
Materialistic things are ok but are all replaceable. Love trumps anything that money could buy me.
7. Forgiveness is vital
We are all imperfect humans. Marriage teaches you that forgiving is vital for the sake of your marriage.
Let’s get real in marriage we fail eachother more often than we like to admit. We make mistakes, we disppointment eacother, we get angry, and there are a million other examples.
However, instead of shifting blame or dodging responsibilities- ask for forgiveness and be willing to give forgiveness.
Forgiveness will lead you to restoration and healing. When you are married you agree to be in it for the long haul and forgiveness is vital.
8. Love wins
There’s nothing that can keep your marriage if it lacks love.
The most important lesson marriage will teach you is that love wins and love conquers all!
Love is the only thing that can remove doubt, grant forgiveness, push through fears, and invites a deeper purpose in your marriage.
Love wins.
Happy Anniversary Andrew
Happy Anniversary Andrew! Can you believe how far we have come? We started this journey so young, we have proven everyone’s doubts wrong.
This year looks a little bit different compared to last year.
We aren’t celebrating another year on the coast stargazing thanks to the pandemic. This year we are celebrating at home surrounded by our children, and honestly, there’s no other better way to celebrate.
We have so much to be thankful for and these kids of ours are our blessing and greatest gift.
Anniversary Traditional Meaning
Last year was about prosperity, good luck, good fortune, security, and warmth. I still can say that I have found good fortune and warmth because of you Andrew.
8th Year Traditional Meaning
In America, the 8th wedding anniversary is traditionally linked by two metals, bronze, and pottery. Each represents something very special, and together something even greater.
Bronze is believed to hold healing powers and represents good health through marriage and challenging times.
Pottery is sculpted and shaped, like marriage over time. And with two people working on each other and their relationship over time it attributes to the beauty of love.
As we step into another year of marriage I know that Jehovah will continue to guide our steps as we continue to live each day in his purpose.
Remember, our first dance? The song was perfect!
It reminds me of one of my favorite bible verses:
“Therefore, what God has yoked together, let no man put apart.” – Mark 10:9
We are 8 years in because we were two that became one flesh and it’s by the blessing and grace of God that he has over us. I know he will continue to bless us as long as we continue to walk in faith.
Happy Anniversary my love!
