The story of us.
This is how I met my husband:
For starts, we both attended the same elementary school, and middle school together. So… we knew of each other and shared all of the same friends from the neighborhood.
How I Met My Husband
“Us” began the summer of 2007. The summer before my eighth-grade year and before Andrew’s freshman year of high school. I met my husband Andrew because we had a mutual friend who we at the time would group chat on AIM. And if you don’t know know what AIM is, it is AOL’s instant messenger. [Gosh… I feel old now!] I’m not even sure if it’s still a thing- but it was very popular in 2007.
One day we were on AIM chatting about end of summer plans and our friend’s upcoming birthday party. Once it started getting late, our other friends logged off but we continued to chat.
Before we knew it the sun was coming up. We stayed up all night talking about music. We literally went back and forth naming old school, oldies but goodies, and naming artists from that era.
I challenged Andrew to see if he really knew his music as much as he bragged about. Never did I imagine that we both knew music so well and the game of naming music and artist seemed to never end. We finally called it quits and went to bed at like 8 am.
We talked every day and what seemed like every second of the day for the next several weeks up until our friend’s party. This was during the time when calls were only free after 9 pm and there was no such thing as unlimited texting (at least not for us). [side note: His mom received a $700 phone bill in the mail that month from Sprint]
The day of the party finally arrived and I really got to spend time with Andrew. It’s crazy that he still remembers what I wore that day.
The Story of Us- We made it official
We made it official after that day. Every weekend after we spent time together with our friends just to see each other. One of the first movies we saw in theater together was “This Christmas”. Even though till this day Andrew says he does not know what that movie was about. (Must have been in a daze from all that kissing in the back of the movie theater) Am I the only one who remembers that it was a thing to go on a movie date and sit in the back row?
Andrew gave me a butterfly promise ring for Christmas that year.
The Story of Us -Memories
After the holiday break from school, we established a schedule where Andrew came over to see me every day after school. He was in high school at the time and got out earlier than me. And he wasn’t driving at the time so, his mom would drop him off and many of those days we would cram into my Aunt’s corvette to take him home. Yes, three people in a two-seater.
Our dreams are our reality
It’s crazy as I type this story and we reminisce on those early years. We talked endlessly about our plans like where we would travel too once we started driving, where we will live when we got older, how many kids we would have, named our kids, and named the type of cars we would own.
The crazy thing about the story of us is that everything we said- we have accomplished. Minus, naming our daughter Mariah. I was set on this name for years. I love Mariah Carey. Our first daughter was close to being named Mariah Ann. But, Andrew wanted to name her Abigail (meaning: my father’s joy).
It’s funny to think as we sit here now about the story of us. Married going on 8 years, in January. Having given life to three beautiful children… that we both started out as two young teens on AIM. And everything we set out to do, we have accomplished successfully.
Check out how we celebrated our 7th anniversary earlier this year:
