Everyone has annoyances aka “pet peeves” that drive you absolutely insane. Let me share with you My 9 Biggest Pet Peeves That Irritate Me and why.
9 Biggest Pet Peeves
1. People who use your belonging without asking
I am a very organized person and I find it to be really annoying when people use my belongings without asking. It takes me even more over the edge when people use my belongings and do not place them back in the same location. I have extreme OCD when it comes to putting items back in their place and I can easily spot when something has been moved by someone and is out of order.
2. Dirty dishes in the sink
Dirty dishes in the sink before bed is an absolute NO… NO! I cannot sleep knowing that there are dirty dishes in the sink.
Thankfully our oldest is at the age where she has her list of chores and loading the dishwasher after dinner is one of her tasks.
It’s something about having a clean sink and clean countertops that helps me sleep better at night. Plus, it’s no fun waking up to cook breakfast with dirty dishes in the sink.
3. Paper clutter
Whether it’s a paper pile-up of work to do or mail sitting on the counter… I cannot deal! The accumulation of paper gives me anxiety.
I am all about saving the trees… paperless all the way. All day. Everyday.
My husband would share that I am famous for throwing paper in the trash, important and unimportant. So, if there is paper sitting around and you need it- I highly advise you to put it in it’s proper place or I will shred it.
4. Dirty laundry
Dirty laundry also spikes my anxiety. I really enjoy doing laundry and often. Most people find laundry a daunting task. Me on the other hand I really find peace in doing laundry- specifically the sorting and folding part.
Each week I do laundry at least twice the week. I don’t let dirty laundry pile up for more than 2-3 days. And this makes doing laundry even easier. It’s less of a struggle when you do a little bit at a time, rather than letting dirty laundry pile up.
5. Chronic Lateness
Lateness is a pet peeve for me. I am a very punctual person. And I cannot stand to be late myself and I hate it when others run late.
I am really good about managing my google calendar and I plan to arrive at events at least 20 minutes prior. I rather be 20 minutes early than simply on time or late. Because you never know what may arise and it’s best to plan for the unexpected.
6. Sudden stops in pedestrian traffic
To start off I hate being in crowded spaces and I try to avoid it if at all possible. However, when I am walking in the city, on a sidewalk, in the grocery store, or driving in a parking lot… I am annoyed by sudden stops in pedestrian traffic.
Too often people walk carelessly in their own little worlds that they do not pay attention to their actions and will come to a dead stop right in front of you. If you are walking in a crowded space in the city, on a sidewalk, or in a grocery store please step off to the side out of the way of others before you come to a dead stop. And for those walking in the parking lot please pay attention and walk in the crosswalk. Also, do not double back once you have made it all the way to the other side. Pay attention.
7. People who violate your personal space
Close talkers or people who simply violate your personal space is a ultimate pet peeve. And this has been a pet peeve in before covid. Please take several steps back. Let’s keep my personal space, personal.
The only thing that excites me about this pandemic is the awareness it has brung to the need for the respect of personal space. I hate it when I am in a checkout line and someone is breathing on my neck as I swipe my card at the register. I am quick to stop what I am doing and ask whoever it is violating my space to back up and take several steps backs.
Since this is a pet peeve for me I am very aware of my surrounding and very conscious of the personal space of others.
8. People who take out their frustrations on innocent people
I have observed and experienced personally far too often people who take out their frustrations on innocent people. Whatever is personally going on in your life should not be something you take out on others.
I hate to see people who are rude to others for no reason. Your personal problems are your personal problems. Don’t take out your frustrations on innocent people. Especially those in customer service who are truly trying to help you.
9. Loud public conversations
I am annoyed by people who carry on loud public conversations while on their cell phone. Specifically when they are in line or conducting business. It’s absolutely rude. Please finish your call before getting in line.
Do not attempt to multi-task and talk on the phone while attempting to conduct business. And do not carry on loud public conversations in waiting areas. There is a time and place for everything, and this is not the time, nor place.

I find the increased use of the terms “simply” and “head over to” when it is unnecessary and redundant, to be very annoying.

I can definitely relate to some of these! For example dishes in the sink and people not paying attention while walking. Costco and walmart are the worst for this, it makes a little crazy. Also people not wearing masks over their noses… That’s a new one. 😂🤷

Clarissa,
I love Wal-mart and Costco but you are right that’s the worst two places. It gives me anxiety. I hate when people are in the way. Plus, I try to avoid large crowds in general. Definitely a major pet peeve!

I agree with you 100% when it comes to dirty dishes. I can’t eat when the kitchen is full so I tend to wash all the dishes before a meal time.

Hi Alyssa,
Absolutely! The kitchen sink and countertops must be clean before I start cooking something else. Plus, cleaning up as I go makes it so much easier. That way there is no major mess to ever have to clean up.

I loved reading this post! So many of your pet peeves are mine as well! I hear you about the mail – I can’t stand to have any unread messages in my email either. I deal with them or file them if I need to keep them.

Thank you so much for reading!
I find that life is a little less cluttered and overwhelming when I stay on top of emails and paper mail. Plus, who doesn’t like a clean table and inbox.
