Don’t forget the importance of Thanksgiving. I am writing to share what Thanksgiving means to me and my family.
What is Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is a celebrated Annual National holiday in the United States. Thanksgiving is a celebration of the harvest and other blessings of the past year.
Indeed, there’s so much to be thankful for. This prompted me to think about what thanksgiving means to me and my family.
What Thanksgiving Means To Me and My Family
For my family and me, Thanksgiving is about giving thanks, praying, spending time together with family, and feasting together. Yesterday, we did all of this. What we did yesterday is what you would see us do anytime throughout the year.
We are not waiting for a holiday to gather, pray, and eat good food. Above all, Thanksgiving is more than a holiday celebration. It’s not the holiday that we celebrate. We simply do what we always do.
I am thankful for…
I realize that I just need the simple things in life: a comfy home, good food on the table, and to be surrounded by the people I love. And this is what thanksgiving means to me and my family. We simply enjoy being around each other, eating good food, and making good memories.
I am thankful for a comfy home
There is truly no place, like home. I am thankful for a comfy home and not a simply a house. Home is not a place it’s a feeling.
A house is made of brick and mortar, but home is made by the people who live there.
M. K. Soni
Our home is a place where love resides, memories are creates, friends and family always belong, and laughter never ends.
My mother in love made beautiful custom t-shirts for us that say: McKinney Turkey Day 2020. Without a doubt, I feel like I was born a McKinney. In reality, I am just married into the family.
My husband and I will celebrate 8 years of marriage in January. Family isn’t always blood. I have learned over the years that it’s the people in your life who want you in theirs. It’s the people who accept you for who you are. People that would do anything to make you smile.
Above all, family ties is everything in the picture above!
Home should be an anchor, a port in a storm, a refuge, a happy place in which to dwell, a place where are loved and where we can love.

I am thankful for good food
Any time we gather good food is always on the table. I’m not the one who wants to be in the kitchen all morning or night. I always make pasta salad and a dessert. Items that do not require too much time preparing.
Banana pudding is my favorite dessert. Yet I never made it from scratch. I challenged myself to make banana pudding for our gathering and it came out absolutely delicious.
Most importantly I know my late Aunt Poppy would be proud of me. Every year during the holidays she’d have me in the kitchen helping her prepare our family dinner. My Aunt warned me that when she was gone that I would have to step up and continue our family cooking traditions. I would also joke around and tell her that I and my cousin OJ would just order Popeyes and serve that for the holidays.
One year she compiled a cookbook of all of my grandmother’s recipes that she continued to pass down. Recipes included: macaroni and cheese, chili, corn pudding, and some other family favorites.
During the holidays I always feel a little sad because I never took her as seriously as I should have. I really miss those times we shared together in the kitchen. It especially hit home this past Thanksgiving as now my daughter watched and helped me prepare for thanksgiving dinner.
This encouraged me to keep adding to our family cookbook so I can then continue to pass down our family recipes. I know my Aunt Poppy would be proud of me and she would have absolutely loved and enjoyed how well my banana pudding turned out.
I am thankful to be surrounded by the people I love
Most importantly, I am grateful that I am surrounded by the ones I love. I am blessed with another year to spend Thanksgiving with my grandfather who turned 89 on Wednesday. Every Thanksgiving is special since we always celebrate his life together.
I caught a priceless moment yesterday. My 89-year-old grandfather dropping knowledge and words of wisdom to his 6-year-old great-granddaughter. Watching my grandfather has helped me to appreciate and never regret growing older. Growing older is a privilege denied by many.
I am grateful to be surrounded by the people that I love.

What does thanksgiving mean to you and your family? Comment below. I am looking forward to reading your response.
Nevertheless, don’t wait until Thanksgiving to open your home and set your table to gather the family around and share what you are thankful for. This is something you should be doing often, and throughout the year.
Matter of fact, in our household we pray before every meal and gather around the table every night with thanksgiving in our hearts.
